Local artists were honored during an awards reception for the 2024 Pine Bluff Art League Annual Exhibition as the show opened Sept. 5 at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas.

Juror Margo Duvall presented the seven awards. The winners are:

Best in Show: Rhonda Holderfield of Rison, “End of the Trail,” oil on canvas, 2024.

First Place: Julia Barrett of Sherrill, “ICU,” collage and mixed media, 2024.

Second Place: Amanda Curry of White Hall, “African Wash Day,” photograph, 2024.

Third Place: Gail Greenstreet of Pine Bluff, “Out of the Way Women on the Move,” watercolor, 2020.

Honorable Mention: Gerry DeLongchamp of White Hall, “Sharpie Lady,” sharpie and collage, 2024.

The third-place award was sponsored by Watson Chapel Picture Frame. All other awards were sponsored by an anonymous donor in honor of Judy Barrett and in memory of Cheryl Fox. The exhibition is sponsored by the Pine Bluff Sand & Gravel Co., according to a news release.

Other league members represented in this show of 37 works are Melissa Abernathy, Linda DeMint, Dell Gorman, Jenny Holley, Paul Owens, Greg Reed, Claudia Spainhour, Margie Spharler and Pamela Wooley.

“The 2024 Pine Bluff Art League is yet another great opportunity for the ASC to feature our local artists within our gallery spaces,” said Kevin Haynie, ARTx3’s curator of collections and exhibitions. “Year after year, the artists within the league dedicate time to their craft that skillfully demonstrates the creative talent that exists within the experienced group.”

“Our juror, artist and educator Margo Duvall, did a fantastic job selecting a strong show that has a great range of styles, and media. A juror’s task can be difficult, but Margo was up to that task as all who attended our opening reception were able to see,” Haynie said.

Duvall of Little Rock earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from San Jose State University in 2009, and her Bachelor of Arts in studio art from Humboldt State University in 2006. She teaches at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville.

Duvall’s artwork investigates photography’s role in the development of memory and identity through film, mixed media and installation-based pieces. She has received recognition as an artist with numerous solo and group shows including the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts’ Delta Exhibition and Arkansas Arts Council’s Small Works on Paper.

This exhibition is on view in the International Paper Gallery at ASC, 701 S. Main St., through Oct. 25. Gallery viewing is free.
