Arson fire destroys vacant house

A vacant house at 809 E. Third Ave. was destroyed in an arson fire early Friday morning.

Lt. Harold Clark of the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department said the blaze was reported at 1:31 a.m. and the house was engulfed by flames when firefighters arrived. An empty house next door was threatened by the fire, but saved despite some of its siding melting because of excessive heat.

Clark said no one was injured and the incident is still under investigation.

The fire department offers a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist. Anyone with knowledge of this or any other arson here can call 543-5150 between the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday or 541-5300 at other times. Callers do not have to identify theselves.
