A suspect has been arrested in a shooting that took place in a park on Saturday night.

Pine Bluff police sent out an update on Sunday in the case, saying that Alexander Cortez Herrien, 26, has been located, arrested and booked into the Jefferson County jail.

Pine Bluff police were looking for Herrien after an 18-year-old man was shot in his lower right leg at Central Park on Saturday evening.

Police said in a Sunday news release that at approximately 5:41 p.m. Saturday, officers were sent to the park at 2101 S. Hickory St. because of a shooting. They located Darius Pearson, 18, who told police he and a group of people went to the park because several people were trying to fight his sister.

Police said Pearson told them that when he got to the park, someone started shooting and he was struck by one of the bullets.

Pearson was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for what appeared to be a non-life-threatening wound.

Herrien was wanted on charges of first-degree battery, possession of firearms by a certain person and aggravated assault on a family or household member in connection with Saturday’s shooting.
