Arkansas’ football coaching staff receive raises

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ football program enjoyed plenty of success on the field in 2011.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino’s staff will be earning a little more because of it in 2012.

The salary pool for Arkansas’ nine assistant coaches will be $2.603 million next season, which is an increase from $2.304 million last year. The salary information was obtained through a Freedom of Information request.

Offensive coordinator Paul Petrino and defensive coordinator Paul Haynes are the highest-paid members of the staff, earning $475,000. Their salaries — which were released when they were hired in December — include $50,000 each from the Razorback Foundation.

New assistant head coach/linebackers coach Taver Johnson will earn $275,000, which is the third-highest salary on staff and equal to his Ohio State earnings. Johnson was hired to replace Reggie Johnson, who left to become the defensive coordinator at Alabama-Birmingham.

The five returning members of the coaching staff — offensive line coach Chris Klenakis, receivers coach Kris Cinkovich, running backs coach Tim Horton, defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell and secondary coach Bobby Allen — each received raises of at least $10,000.

Defensive tackles coach Kevin Peoples, who spent two seasons as Arkansas’ director of high school relations before being promoted to the coaching staff last month, also received a pay raise to $200,000. Jason Shumaker, who was hired to replace Peoples, will earn $102,000.
