GILLETT – Arkansas Post National Memorial re-opened to visitors Thursday. Visitors can access public areas and roads immediately while facilities and other public services are brought back online. The park has been closed since Oct. 1 due to the government shutdown.
“We are excited to be back at work and welcome visitors to Arkansas Post,” said Superintendent Ed Wood. “Autumn is a particularly special season to enjoy all that the post has to offer.”
Due to the shutdown, the 19th annual Ghosts of the Past program planned for Oct. 19 was rescheduled for Nov. 23.
“This living history walk is among the most popular programs that the park provides,” Wood said. “We felt we needed to have more time to prepare our staff and volunteers to provide the best possible event.”
