Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby to be held at Arkansas Post National Memorial

The Arkansas Post National Memorial will hold its annual fishing derby at the park lake on Saturday, June 18. The derby is free of charge, and all kids ages 12 and younger and their families are invited to attend.

Last year, the event attracted young anglers from across the state and prizes were awarded for most fish caught and largest fish.

The Derby cosponsors, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will stock the park lake with channel catfish. Registration for participation begins at 8:30 a.m. and fishing will begin approximately at 9 a.m. The Weigh-in and prize ceremony will start at noon, and afterwards the lake will be open for public fishing.

Remember, this is and outdoor program, so visitors are encouraged to dress accordingly. Equipment such as fishing poles, supplies, and bait will not be provided. Even though participation is free, all kids must register in order to participate.

Arkansas Post National Memorial is located on Arkansas Highway 169 approximately seven miles south of Gillett. It can be reached via US 165 and is about 20 miles south of DeWitt or 20 miles north of Dumas. All activities are free and there is no fee for entrance to the park. Programs and activities taking place in the Visitor Center are wheel chair accessible.
