Altheimer library closes temporarily; 2 staff likely exposed to COVID-19

The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System’s Altheimer Branch location is closing temporarily after learning that two employees may have been exposed to COVID-19, according to a news release.

The library is closing immediately until Monday, Aug. 17.

“While neither of our employees have shown symptoms, it is very important to test these individuals so we have a definitive answer,” a spokesman said. “The risk of transmission is very low, however we are notifying the public out of an abundance of caution.”

The library system is concerned about protecting residents as well as the staff.

“Our concern for the safety of our employees, visitors, and surrounding community are paramount,” said Library Director Bobbie Morgan. “We believe it is important for us to shut down operations of this branch location to allow time for cleaning of all staff and visitors areas. I understand this action will be disruptive to the Altheimer community using the curbside service, but we must consider public health and safety priority number one.”
