The Altheimer Library will begin offering full library service to area patrons, according to a press release from the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System.
A grand opening will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the Altheimer Library. Altheimer Mayor Lola Hudson and the library’s honored guest and Altheimer native Irene Holcomb have accepted invitations to attend. The city council and all interested patrons are also invited to attend.
Full service will begin Monday with new hours. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Two additional computers have been purchased and will be installed soon. These computers are primarily intended for the use of area youth with a view to developing and increasing computer skills, the spokesman said.
LaNelle Roberts, president of the board of trustees of the library system, announced the additional service. The addition of Deitra Wilson as full time branch manager made it possible to offer increased hours of service and Melony Darrough will continue serving library patrons as she has for many years.

“Melony Darrough has been a loyal and dedicated member of the library team for many years,” Roberts said. “Even so, we could not offer this additional service with only one team member, Melony, at the library.”
The addition of Wilson allows the system to offer Altheimer area patrons more hours and more days (since the facility will now be open Fridays.)
“The additional computers will immediately contribute and flatten the learning curve of our young people,” she said. “Now, waiting time will be eliminated or greatly reduced and they can become active explorers of the wonders of the web while seated in a library chair in Altheimer.”
