LITTLE ROCK — Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said Tuesday his office has filed a lawsuit against a Fayetteville roofing company that allegedly pocketed insurance payments from at least 19 homeowners and failed to perform promised repairs.
The suit, filed Tuesday in Pulaski County Circuit Court, names Razorfast Roofing, its predecessor Razorback Roofing and owner Shawn Redmond as defendants. It seeks restitution for consumers and civil penalties.
Razorfast’s phone number has been disconnected. No listed number could be found for Redmond.
The suit alleges that the company violated the state’s Home Solicitation Sales Act and the Deceptive Trade Practices Act by engaging in aggressive telemarketing to obtain contracts from homeowners in storm-damaged neighborhoods and failing to complete the work.
When customers tried to cancel their contracts, the company refused to return their money as required by state law, the attorney general’s office said.
The suit also alleges that the company promised a “free inspection” but required homeowners to name Razorfast Roofing as their exclusive roofing provider in order to receive the service.
The attorney general’s office said some customers’ insurance companies threatened to cancel their coverage because work for which the carriers provided payments was not completed.
