The American Business Women’s Association Du Bocage Chapter met April 2 at the Pine Bluff Country Club.
Susan Buckner, Master Gardener from the Jefferson County Extension Office, (and a retired public school choir director) was the speaker.
Buckner volunteers to oversee the flower garden next to the community garden at the Extension Office, 500 Idaho St, according to a news release.
She gave the chapter members tips on how to create “perfect planters.” She provided the members with a handout and brought several plants from the Produce Shed to show the chapter.
Buckner also demonstrated how to properly prepare a planter, to select potting soil, select plants for a pot and plant the plants. She answered all the members’ questions.

Buckner provided the chapter with a plant from the Produce Shed for a door prize. Chapter member Mary Baxter won the prize.

In other business, Glenda Dean discussed the tailgate packages and displayed a few of the items that had been recently donated for the fundraiser. The tickets are $1 each or $5 for six. The funds raised are used to provide college scholarships for a female graduating from a Jefferson County high school.
Heather Edwards reminded everyone to invite a guest to a chapter meeting and to encourage them and others to join.
“If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Chapter, please contact Heather Edwards at 870-541-1480. The chapter meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Country Club’s Oak Room,” according to the release.
