AARP Driver Safety program offering special fee for educators

The AARP Driver Safety Program, developed by AARP, will be offered from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W. 40th Ave.

The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members, and $5 for educators during July and August, payable to AARP at the time of the class. Participants should bring a valid driver’s license and their AARP membership card if they are members.

The course is for persons 50 and older and covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time that comes with age and provides practical techniques for dealing with these changes. A driver who completes the course will receive a certificate that, by state law, enables drivers to receive a discount on their automobile insurance if they are 55 and older. This discount is good for three years under Arkansas state law.

The four-hour multimedia course will be taught by Bob Daugherty, an AARP certified instructor. There is no test to pass.

Those interested in taking the course should call 870-247-4898 to pre-register. The class will be limited to 35 participants.
