73rd annual Gillett Coon Supper set Jan. 14

The Gillett Farmers and Businessmen’s Club will host the 73rd annual Coon Supper at Saturday, Jan. 14, in the Gillett Elementary School Gymnasium. The doors will open and the meal will be served at 6 p.m. with the program beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The menu will include coon, baby-back ribs, brisket, rice, sweet potatoes and cake.

“The Gillett Farmers and Businessmen’s Club is a non-profit and non-political club that has grown into an outstanding asset for the community of Gillett,” a spokesman said in a news release. “The club helps with efforts such as summer programs, school programs, an educational endowment fund, athletic and scholastic awards, and community service.”

The club has awarded the Gillett Farmers and Businessmen’s Scholarship to two graduating seniors from the Gillett area the last four years. Each student received a $1,000 a year scholarship, renewable for four years.

“The club continues to use all proceeds from the Coon Supper to fund these scholarships and we will award two more scholarships to seniors graduating in 2017. These scholarships demonstrate the commitment that the Gillett Farmers and Businessmen’s Club has for the students in our area,” the spokesman said.

“The Gillett Coon Supper is the first and one of the largest events of its type held at the beginning of each New Year. Many national, state, and local politicians, and people from all over Arkansas and surrounding states will attend this event,” he said.

High school seniors from Gillett will be recognized. Coon Supper T-shirts and hats will be available.
