Jefferson County Food & Safety Report

The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

Here are recent reports:

THE CAJUN FRIED HOUSE, 3007 S. Olive St. Date of inspection into complaint Jan. 25. Observed some liquid leaking from the ceiling during the inspection. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair.

SR QUICK MART INC., 5001 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Jan. 25. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observation: Observed drink area unclean. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris. Observation: Health permit is expired. Corrective Action: It is unlawful to operate a retail food establishment without a valid permit. Contact the billing office at 501-661-2171 to ensure that you are in compliance with the law.

SHELL FOOD MART, 6708 Sulphur Springs Road. Date of inspection Jan. 25. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observed hand washing sink blocked. A handwashing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and do not use for purposes other than handwashing. Corrected during time of inspection. Observed food in cooler not covered. All foods shall be kept covered. Person in charge covered food during time of inspection. Observed wiping cloths laying on sink. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to Retail Food establishment.

KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN, 2707 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 25. Observed some chemicals being stored on tables near food prep area. POISONOUS OR TOXIC MATERIALS shall be stored so they cannot contaminate FOOD, EQUIPMENT, UTENSILS, LINENS, and SINGLE-SERVICE and SINGLE-USE ARTICLES by separating the POISONOUS OR TOXIC MATERIALS by spacing or partitioning. Chemicals were moved to a chemical storage area during the inspection. No trash lids observed on trash cans containing food residue when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be kept covered when not in continuous use. Observed some missing floor tiles in the kitchen. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair.

HAZEL GAS STOP, 2801 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection Jan. 25. No paper towels provided at the hand washing sink in the kitchen. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated air drying device at each handwashing sink in food preparation, toilet and warewashing areas. Paper towels were provided at the hand washing sink during the inspection. Facility lacks refrigerator thermometer. Food temperature measuring device shall be provided and readily accessible for use in ensuring attainment and maintenance of food temperature. The restroom door is not self closing. A toilet room located on the PREMISES shall be completely enclosed and provided with a tight-fitting and self-closing door. Observed some damaged ceiling tiles throughout the store. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair.

E-Z MART, 5401 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Jan. 25. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM.

DOLLAR TREE STORE, 5923 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Jan. 25. Observed boxes stored directly on floor in walk-in freezer. Food must be stored six inches above the floor to be in compliance with established regulations.

SUBWAY, 7401 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of follow-up inspection Jan. 29. No violations reported.

POPEYES LOUISIANA KITCHEN, 3411 Camden Road. Date of inspection Dec. 13, 2023. Observed boxes stored directly on floor in walk in cooler. Food must be stored six inches above the floor to be in compliance with established regulations. Observation: Observed dust/debris on top of ice machine. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris. Cleaned during time of inspection.

POPEYES LOUISIANA KITCHEN, 3411 Camden Road. Date of inspection into complaint Jan. 29. No violations reported.
