Kid-on-the-Block 4-H has adopted multiple city blocks in the 3rd Ward that it will work to keep litter-free through the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Clean and Beautiful Commission.

Kid-on-the-Block is a new initiative developed by Verna Perry in partnership with Pine Bluff Third Ward City Council Members William Fells and Lanette Frazier. The Clean and Beautiful Commission is led by Director Kelli Kennedy.

The adopted area will cover public spaces between South Blake Street and South Gum Street (from west to east) and West 15th Avenue and West 12th Avenue (from north to south).

Students between the ages of 5-19 will host regular Saturday cleanups throughout the area in 2025, according to a news release.

“One of my top priorities is creating cleaner neighborhoods,” said Fells.

“When Ms. Perry approached me about this idea, I gave her my full support. I then worked with Council Member Frazier and Kelli Kennedy to get the students inducted into Clean and Beautiful, which will give them access to cleanup supplies and valuable guidance.”

Frazier said she is proud of the students who have volunteered their time and energy to beautify Ward 3.

“Their dedication and hard work reflect the power of community collaboration and a shared commitment to creating a cleaner, more vibrant environment for everyone. Together, we are building a brighter and more beautiful third ward,” Frazier said.

Kennedy hopes this partnership will grow from the 3rd Ward and inspire others.

“The Clean and Beautiful Commission is encouraging others to become an active part of improving their community, and the Kid-on-the-Block program is a great example of showing that all ages can be involved,” Kennedy said.

Through Kid-on-the-Block, Perry will also focus on teaching students important topics and skills related to landscaping, installing electricity, plumping, framing homes for construction, owning land and more.

“I’m really proud that not only will students be improving the neighborhood, they will also be learning important skills and trades that can help them develop successful careers and become thriving adults,” said Fells.
