Applications for the 31st annual KingFest Martin Luther King Jr. Marade (March-Parade) sponsored by the Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc. are now available.
The KingFest Marade will start at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, with participants asked to line up at 1 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
The route will be south on Main Street to Second Avenue, east on Second Avenue to Convention Center Drive, then south on Convention Center Drive to the north steps of the Civic Center Complex.
ICVR King Team Pen or Pencil youths will present a short educational program. Other youths may participate as well by contacting the ICVR office to have their group or individual talent placed on the agenda.
The theme for the 2015 KingFest Marade is “Faith in Justice Produces Stronger Communities”. Participants are asked to develop messages and display them on floats, cars, banners and signs related to the theme. Awards will be given for the most provocative banner, poster or float using the Marade theme.
Churches, social and civic organzations, youth groups, neighborhood watch groups, sororities, fraternities, school bands, businesses and elected officials are invited to join the KingFest Marade honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through interracial cooperation and community service.
