Three Southeast Arkansas schools were among winners of the Stock Market Game sponsored by Economics Arkansas. Winners honored at an awards luncheon at Verizon Arena on April 29 include:
• Region 2, first place, East End Intermediate School, adviser Sherri DeSoto, Sheridan;
• Region 6, first place and second place, Hardin Elementary School, adviser, Marybeth Passmore, White Hall;
• Region 6, first place and second place, Watson Chapel Junior High School, adviser, Lillian Hemphill, Watson Chapel. Hemphill was also recognized in the category of Portfolio Adviser.
Winners received cash awards and trophies for winning first and second place for their successful efforts to grow a hypothetical stock portfolio of $100,000 for 10 weeks during the spring semester.
Economics Arkansas, a nonprofit educational organization that trains educators how to integrate economics and personal finance concepts into the K-12 classroom curriculum, hosts the Stock Market Game program each fall and spring semester.
