On Dec. 17, the White Hall Chamber of Commerce named the 22 winners of its annual What Christmas Means to Me Writing Contest.
“We are so proud of all of our students who participated in the What Christmas Means to Me writing contest,” said Debbie Johnson, Chamber member and spokesman for the event. “Their creativity, heart, and holiday spirit truly shined. Congratulations to the winners.”
The competition was open to White Hall School District students in kindergarten through fifth grades at Hardin, Taylor, Moody and Gandy elementary schools.
“Many teachers do the contest as a writing project,” Johnson said.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
“We (about 12 Chamber members) read all the letters. They are so heartwarming to read. We laugh, we cry, it’s so very emotional,” she said.
“Each winner receives a $50 Walmart gift certificate. The kids are so excited,” Johnson said.
Funds for the competition are raised through members’ dues. Johnson said this competition is just one of the Chamber’s events.
The White Hall Chamber of Commerce meets on the second Tuesday of each month for a luncheon that often features a guest speaker.
“We always welcome new members,” Johnson said.
Attendees are asked to RSVP by the Friday before the luncheon. For more information, call the White Hall Chamber of Commerce (870) 247-5502 or visit www.whitehallarchamber.org.
