Christian Women’s luncheon set

The Christian Women’s Connection luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

The speaker will be BJ Tassin and her topic will be “Abide and Bless — Learning to Live Where You Are Planted and Blessed Beyond Boundaries.”

The feature will be her husband, Scott Tassin, presenting his book, “Creation Science,” a look at known scientific facts and their relationship to whether they contradict or verify each other.

The couple is from Gravette, according to the news release.

BJ Tassin is a noted speaker and author who’s had a passion for writing since her teen years.

She has published poems, articles and artwork in her hometown of Monroe, La.

The Tassins’ family now includes eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The Women’s Connection luncheon is $20, which includes the meal, drink, dessert, tax and gratuity. Everyone is invited to attend. For luncheon reservations and/or cancellations contact Jennifer Keahey at 870 540-9302.

UAM sets event for students

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Office of Admissions will host Weevil Welcome: College Preview Day on March 9, beginning at 9 a.m. Registration will be held in the Gibson University Center on UAM’s Monticello campus.

Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the program will run until noon.

Prospective high school juniors and seniors who are interested in attending UAM, the UAM College of Technology-Crossett (UAM-CTC) or the UAM College of Technology-McGehee (UAM-CTM) are invited to attend the free event to learn about programs of study, financial aid, new scholarship opportunities, residence life, student organizations and more.

Parents and guests are also welcome to attend, according to the news release.

Students who have already applied to the university are still encouraged to attend the event to meet with faculty, staff and current UAM students.

Mary Whiting, director of Admissions and Recruiting at UAM, encouraged interested students to attend the event.

“We look forward to sharing scholarship information and our UAM Pledge program with prospective students,” she said.

“Faculty from all academic areas from all three campuses will be available for students to meet with on the Monticello campus. It’s a great opportunity to have a personalized visit.”

Entergy sets bill assistance events

Entergy Arkansas will host customer care events in Pine Bluff on Feb. 10-11 and Stuttgart on Feb. 9 connecting customers with tools, resources and community partners focused on providing on-site assistance and energy savings options, according to the news release.

Entergy staff will be available to help customers sign up for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which provides financial assistance to eligible households to help cover energy costs; answer billing questions; provide details about flexible payment options, energy-saving tips and information about programs designed to help customers reduce monthly energy costs.

Customers interested in applying for help should bring: a driver’s license or state-issued ID, Social Security card or number, proof of all income, a copy of their most recent electric bill and lease agreement (if living in subsidized housing or if utilities are included in rent.)

The events are open to the public, and no appointment is required.
