Basketball games rescheduled
The winter weather expected for this weekend has caused major changes to sports schedules across Arkansas.
Most high school varsity basketball games scheduled for Friday have been moved up to Thursday, including Pine Bluff’s home games against Hot Springs, White Hall’s against Lake Hamilton and Sheridan’s road games at Texarkana. The lone exception across Southeast Arkansas is Watson Chapel, which has rescheduled home games against Hamburg to Feb. 3.
Southeast Arkansas College has moved Saturday’s home games against UA Cossatot to Feb. 2. As of Wednesday afternoon, Friday’s women’s basketball nonconference road game against Arkansas Baptist was still scheduled for 5 p.m.
The Great American Conference announced the six women’s and six men’s basketball games scheduled for Saturday have all been postponed to Monday. Among them are UA Monticello’s games at Arkansas Tech University.

UAM is still scheduled to host a women’s-men’s doubleheader against Southern Arkansas University starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Civic panel to meet
The Civic Auditorium Complex Commission meeting will be held in person at noon Tuesday. For participants who can’t attend, they may join the conference call. Details: Pine Bluff Convention Center, 870-536-7600.
Health agency sets open house
Arcare, 4747 Dusty Lake Drive, Suite G1, will hold an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 18. The community is invited to attend, according to a flyer. Arcare is now serving the Watson Chapel community with primary care services and behavioral health. Angela Metcalf, a certified family nurse practitioner, and team are ready to assist new or existing patients, according to Facebook.
Simmons announces earnings
Simmons First National Corp. on Tuesday reported net income of $78.1 million for the fourth quarter of 2025, compared to a net loss of $562.8 million for the third quarter of 2025 and net income of $48.3 million for the fourth quarter of 2024, according to a news release.
Diluted earnings per share were $0.54 for the fourth quarter of 2025, minus $4 for the third quarter of 2025 and $0.38 for the fourth quarter of 2024. Adjusted earnings for the fourth quarter of 2025 were $79 million, compared to $64.9 million in the third quarter of 2025 and $49.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Exhibit open to young artists
The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA) invites Arkansas educators to submit their students’ artwork for the 65th Young Arkansas Artists (YAA) exhibition, a statewide juried showcase for K-12 students. Submissions are open through Feb. 8.
In its 65th year, YAA recognizes outstanding student work across media and grade levels, providing a meaningful opportunity for students to exhibit their art in a museum setting, according to a news release.
Educators can submit entries through AMFA’s submission portal. Eligibility is open to K-12 students living or attending school in Arkansas. Artwork must be completed within the 2025-26 school year, and and submissions are coordinated by teachers or schools.
Submissions are open through Feb. 8; exhibition is on view May 23 through July 26; and the awards ceremony is scheduled for May 23, 11 a.m. to noon. Additional program dates are to be announced. Exhibition Location is at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, Little Rock.
Reasons to participate include museum exhibition experience for students; statewide recognition and awards; and professional juror and public presentation of student work.

OBU names Dean’s, Presidents lists
Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia named area residents to its Dean’s and President’s lists for the fall 2025 semester. To qualify for either list, students must be classified as a full-time undergraduate student, with a minimum of 12 academic hours and no incomplete or failing grades for the semester. The Dean’s List features students who have complied a 3.5-3.9 grade point average, while the President’s List includes students who compiled a 4.0 grade point average, according to a news release.
