Old Wabbaseka church keeps agri items

The former Wabbaseka Methodist Church building will now serve as the home for Agriculture Memories of Wabbaseka Area Farm Families, according to Wabbaseka native and author Jason Irby.

Located at 101 Highway 79 North in Wabbaseka, the building will house memories and history related to farm families in and near the area, Irby said on StuffinTheBluff.com.

“I grew up in the small township of Wabbaseka. The area surrounding it was vast agriculture and wildlife habitat. Even though the city limits had boundaries, the core of Wabbaseka stretches far and wide, along Gilliand Road to Hartley Dump,” Irby said.

He continued describing the community that ranges “from the Wabbaseka Scatters, Double Ditches Longbell, and Mulberry throughout the span of the Wabbaseka Bayou.”

“The Wabbaseka area also includes Altheimer, Humphrey and the unincorporated communities of Gethsemane, Walker’s Corner, Flat Bayou, Salt Bayou, Wadittesha and Wattisha within Jefferson County,” Irby said.
