UAPB names Alumni Queen, King

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff AM&N National Alumni Association Inc. recently named winners of the alumni queen and king contest.

The Alumni Queen is Kamra Mays Thompson, who raised $61,630.80.

The first runner-up is LaShianda Wills Polk, who raised $43,377.27.

The Alumni King is Frank Dorsey II, who raised raised $11,985.

The first runner-up is Fess Thompson, who raised $5,060.

Mays Thompson, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, educator, mentor, former assistant professor of psychology at UAPB, Ronald McNair Faculty mentor and founder of Psi Chi’s campus chapter, according to a news release.

Dorsey is dean for UAPB Student Involvement & Leadership. He was also selected for the Executive Leadership Institute at Clark Atlanta University 2025 Community of Fellows, according to a previous release.

“Congratulations to our winners and runner-ups for representing Golden Lion excellence with pride and dedication,” said Tanesha Thompson, president of the UAPB AM&N National Alumni Association. “I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our alumni who gave so generously. Your support directly impacts scholarships, student success, and the continued strength of the UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association.”

While the official contest has ended, donors may still contribute throughout UAPB’s Homecoming this week.

Congratulations to all of our incredible honorees, for raising a grand amount for Dear Mother and the UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association. JRMC to host blood drive

Jefferson Regional Medical Center will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Henslee Conference Center rooms J and R. Walkins are welcome. Donors will receive a glow-in-the dark Wicked T-shirt and pass to the Little Rock Zoo, while supplies last. Photo ID will be required to donate, according to a flier from Our Blood Institute. Arsenal announces fall festival

The Pine Bluff Arsenal Fall Festival 2025 will be held from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Plainview Soccer Field (next to the Pass and ID complex), according to a flier.

Admission is free. Registration for goodie bags is open until Oct. 24. The event will include food, games, arts and crafts, food trucks, inflatable obstacles, and the best costume contest. The community is invited to attend. Details: www.facebook.com/PBAMWR.

Free shredding event set

A free fall shredding event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 30 at Saracen Landing. People can shred old papers safely and securely. There’s a limit of 10 boxes per person and items must be sorted and metal free, according to a flier.

Area Agency tells menu

Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas offers lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Next week’s menu includes:

Oct. 13 — Baked mushroom burger, stewed tomatoes, Au gratin potatoes, pineapples and milk.

Oct. 14 — Homemade chicken soup, broccoli and cauliflower, crackers, Jell-O and milk.

Oct. 15 — Spaghetti with meat sauce, Italian vegetables, garlic toast, orange wedges and milk.

Oct. 16 — Open face roast beef sandwich with gravy, mashed potatoes, California blend vegetables, fruit and milk.

Oct. 17 — BBQ meat with bun, coleslaw, roasted potatoes, hot applesauce and milk.
