Women’s Connection luncheon set
The Christian Women’s Connection invites the community to its luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Pine Bluff Country Club.
The speaker will be Deborah Nottingham-McGaw of Brownwood, Texas. Her topic will be “Moments to Remember.”
“Debi shares about how writing in journals and blogs about life and travels, and surviving cancer and divorce always reminds her of God’s love and goodness toward her and others,” according to a news release. “She is an avid hiker (hiked all 50 states), musician and writer of two published books.”
The feature at the luncheon will be two fundraisers: a silent auction bake sale and white elephant sale.

Raven’s Nest to give away food
Raven’s Nest Food Pantry at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 2507 Hill St., will be open Oct. 11 from 8-9:30 a.m. or until all the food has been given away. Food will be distributed on a first come, first-served basis. Participants must bring a picture identification.
This pantry is a U.S. Department of Agriculture distribution site and an equal opportunity provider, according to a news release.
Ivy Center plans sessions
The Ivy Center for Education announces upcoming events.
An ACT Boot Camp will be presented on Zoom Only from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. The presenters will be Charity Smith Allen and team from Fetterman & Associates. Students in grades seven through 12 are encouraged to attend, according to a news release.
Future Engineers will meet at the Generator, 435 S. Main St., from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 14. The presenters will be representatives from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Department of Industrial Technology, Management and Applied Engineering and the STEM Academy. Students in seventh through 12th grades are encouraged to attend in person or virtually.

Election board to meet
The Jefferson County Board of Election Commissioners will have a called meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the election center, 123 S. Main St., said Chairman Michael Adam.
The agenda includes public comments on new business (two minutes per speaker). New business includes appointing coordinators for the upcoming elections.
Area Agency tells menu
Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas offers lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Next week’s menu includes:
Oct. 6 — Chicken strips, macaroni and cheese, carrots, peaches and milk.
Oct. 7 — Ham with pineapple sauce, yams, green beans, roll, pie and milk.
Oct. 8 — Chili cheese coney dog, coleslaw with grated carrots, fruit, cookie and milk.
Oct. 9 — Loaded baked potato with meat, cheese, and vegetables, roasted Brussels sprouts, peanut butter silk pie and milk.
Oct. 10 — Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, pears and milk.
Local on MD Dean’s List
The University of Maryland Global Campus at Adelphi, Md., named Jillian Espinoza of DeWitt to the Dean’s List for the summer 2025 term. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 grade point average, and maintained a cumulative GPA, according to a news release.
GOP announces filing dates, fees
The Jefferson County Republican Committee announces election filing dates and fees. The filing period for the 2026 primary elections begins at noon Nov. 3 and ends at noon Nov. 12.
Candidates must file with the county committee before filing with the county clerk, according to a news release.
Republican candidates can file with the committee:
At the Jefferson County Courthouse from noon until 5 p.m. Nov. 3.
At the committee meeting Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at Larry’s Pizza in White Hall.
At the courthouse from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 12.
The GOP county committee filing fees for the following positions are: county judge, $1,000; all county wide offices, $500; justice of the peace, $200; constable, $100; and municipal offices, $100.
County committee membership is $25.
