Club Scrub to host workshop
The Ivy Center for Education’s Future Medical Professionals “Club Scrub” Workshop will be held virtually from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 7.
The topic is Exploring Dental Hygiene as a Career. The guest speaker is Brittany Rose, a registered dental hygienist with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Health Professions, Dental Hygiene Program. The objective is to introduce students to the field of dental hygiene by highlighting the role, responsibilities, and the impact of dental hygienists in healthcare, highlighting why dental hygiene is an important career choice, according to a news release. There will be an Icebreaker Activity from 6:05 to 6:10 – Quick interactive poll or word cloud: “What comes to mind when you think of a dental hygienist?” Rose will share her journey into dental hygiene, overview of the profession, education/training requirements, career pathways, and opportunities in oral health care from 6:30-6:50 p.m.. Afterwards, there will be an interactive question and answer session.

Grace Episcopal to bless animals

Grace Episcopal Church, 4101 S. Hazel St., will host a celebration event for the Blessing of the Animals service at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 on the front lawn of the church grounds.
Grace has hosted this event for more than 25 years to honor the patron saint of animals, St. Francis of Assisi. Any owner and animal are welcome. Pets should be on leashes or in carriers during the event. There will be refreshments for adults, children, and pets, according to a news release. Participants are asked to bring a donation of animal food to help support and benefit the Jefferson Humane Society.

Angel Tree Program begins soon
The Salvation Army of Pine Bluff, serving Cleveland, Dallas, Grant, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties, will again sponsor community Angel Trees beginning Oct. 14. The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program helps families with children up to age 12 by providing Christmas gifts.
This program offers individuals the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for those less fortunate in their community. It provides new clothing, shoes, basic needs, and “wish list” items to thousands of children and seniors nationwide who might otherwise receive nothing for Christmas, according to a news release.
APPLICATION DATES
Applications for Angel Tree assistance will be accepted Oct. 14-17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Civic Center (in the old Council Chambers), 200 E. Eighth Ave. This is the only opportunity to submit applications, and no exceptions will be made.
DOCUMENTS NEEDED
Documents that will be needed when applying include picture ID (driver’s license, state issued ID, governmental/military ID, passport, or ID from country of origin) for all adult household members; birth certificate for each child; proof of guardianship for each child; legal documentation, or DHS benefits letter. Proof of household income needed includes pay stub, SSI information, unemployment verification, etc. If no income verification is available, you may bring a DHS Benefits Statement (must include name, birth date, Social Security number, benefit type, and amount.)
Proof of current residence needed include (current utility bill or lease/mortgage agreement.)

Domestic Violence Walk set
The Pine Bluff Police Department will host its annual Domestic Violence Walk from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 21. Participants should meet at the civic center’s front steps at 200 E. Eighth Ave. All are welcome. According to the PBPD, the walk is designed to celebrate survivors and to recognize that an act of domestic abuse occurs every minute. Details: (870) 730-2042.
Senior association sets queen finals
Arkansas Health Care Association will host the Senior Queen Pageant state finals at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 30 at Little Rock Marriott. Individual facilities hold pageants and their winners move on to district-wide competitions. Residents who have won their district queen pageants will compete for the state title, according to a news release.
