JRMC names ICU medical chief
Jefferson Regional proudly announces Dr. Sarenthia Epps as the new ICU medical director.
“A highly respected pulmonary and critical care physician, Dr. Epps brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, underscoring the hospital’s continued commitment to delivering exceptional care to the community,” according to a news release.
Epps completed her medical degree, residency and fellowship training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
“With extensive expertise in pulmonary and critical care medicine, she is well-equipped to manage the complexities of critical illnesses and advanced respiratory conditions,” according to the release.

Epps is an active member of the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Beyond her professional achievements, Epps is also a wife and mother of two young sons.

Chamber changes lunch site
The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Pine Bluff Library, 600 S. Main St. The speaker will be Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., according to the chamber newsletter. Lunch will be catered by the Wood Shed BBQ. BRAVE sets school supply giveaway
The Pine Bluff Black Firefighters Association will give away school supplies during Project Fresh Start from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday outside the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave. The community is invited to attend.
Better known as BRAVE (Banishing Racial Animosity Vigorously Everywhere), this organization continues its tradition of helping to prepare students for the upcoming school year. Various vendors will be on site, according to StuffinTheBluff.com.

UAPB alumni plan scholarship gala
The Pine Bluff Jefferson County UAPB/AM&N Alumni Chapter will present a scholarship gala at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. A clear bag policy will be enforced.
Mary Liddell is the chapter president. Robert Carr is the 2025 scholarship gala chair. This year’s theme is “Journey of Knowledge: Empowering Minds, Igniting Futures,” according to StuffinTheBluff.com.
The proceeds will be used to award scholarships to eight University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff students (including 2025 graduates of high schools in Jefferson County).
Six individuals will also be honored for outstanding service and making a difference in the community and UAPB. The 2025 honorees and the categories in which they will be honored include: Dr. Stephen A. Broughton — Medicine; Dorothy Chapman-Brown — Education; K & C Media (Ty and Angelica Walton) — Business; Mary A. Liddell — Community Service; Janice L. Roberts — Government.
