UAPB professor speaks in Qatar
Yasser Sanad, Ph.D, associate professor of food safety at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, was invited to Qatar University Biomedical Research Centre to participate as a faculty member and keynote speaker at the School of Respiratory Viruses and Infectious Pathogens recently.
The program is designed to provide developmental opportunities for postgraduate students and early-career scientists, fostering expertise in zoonotic and infectious pathogens, according to a news release.
The five-day event featured lectures, roundtables, workshops and laboratory training, covering themes such as avian influenza virus, SARS-CoV-2 and MERS-CoV.
The organizers selected senior faculty members with expertise in epidemiology, microbial diagnostics and genomic sequencing to mentor and engage with junior participants.

Sanad was invited to deliver a keynote speech on “Challenges and Solutions in Implementing One Health for Zoonotic Disease Control.”
“Dr. Sanad was presented an award of recognition for his contributions and engagement in the scientific community and to honor his participation as a keynote speaker and faculty member. This award highlights his dedication to research, mentorship and global capacity-building in the field of zoonosis and infectious pathogens,” according to the release.
UAPB 5K set June 21
UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association announced a 5K Run and Walk will be held at 8 a.m. June 21 beginning at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff ROTC Building, 1802 W. Reeker Ave.
The community is invited to participate in the event benefiting the UAPB Athletics, according to the flier.
Entry is $25 per person.
The event is presented by Gold Standard Collective.

UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association Inc. invites alumni to help crown the 2025 University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff/AM&N National Alumni Association Queen and King.
