Dumas church has women’s conference

Bethlehem Worship Center Church in Dumas invites the community to its 2025 Women’s Conference. The theme is Women Pursuing Holiness and Righteousness in These Unstable Times. On April 6, 10:30 a.m. services feature a district missionary, Linda Jones. At 2 p.m., the speaker will be a district missionary, Rosie Marks, of Rehoboth Temple Church of God in Christ of Bryant.

Art League features LR artist

The Pine Bluff Art League will host its monthly meeting featuring Little Rock Artist Tanya Hollifield from 2-p.m. Sunday at Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave. The community is invited to attend free, according to a news release. Hollifield was artist in residence at the ARTx3 Campus in December 2024 working on a special paper doll project, The McAll Project, and will be sharing her process with the PBAL.

Gospel Temple honors pastor, wife

Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 Oakwood Road, will celebrate the 31st pastoral anniversary of the Rev. James and Joyce Murry, at 2 p.m. April 6. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Charles Helloms Jr., pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, U.S. 425 South.

Gould church honors pastor, wife

Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Gould will host the seventh anniversary of its pastor and wife, the Rev. Phillip and Jurmicka Puckett, April 6. At 11 a.m., the guest preacher will be the Rev. UAM to host Jazz One Concert

The Division of Music at the University of Arkansas at Monticello will host a performance by UAM Jazz One on April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the fine arts center. The concert, part of UAM Jazz Week, is free and open to the public, according to a news release. Under the director of Kevin Bryson, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies at UAM, the ensemble will play a tribute to the late Quincy Jones, noted record producer, composer, arranger, conductor, trumpeter and bandleader. Statewide education tour coming

Education nonprofit The Reform Alliance will feature the Arkansas Department of Education Office of School Choice and Parent Empowerment at town hall-style meetings in Pine Bluff and Little Rock. Events are free. Meetings include: 6 p.m. April 8, The Generator, 435 S. Main St., Pine Bluff and 6 p.m. April 10, Red & Blue Event Venue, 1415 W. Seventh St., Little Rock. These meetings, part of a statewide tour, include a discussion of all K-12 educational options – public, private and nontraditional – with information about how to access these programs, as well as an opportunity for families to ask questions, according to a news release. TOPPS to give away food

TOPPS (Targeting Our People’s Priorities with Service), 1000 Townsend Drive, will give away food April 8 at 10 a.m. TOPPS will use the drive-through method for the distribution. Food will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must present an ID. Each household is allowed to receive one box of food. Health agency sets grand opening

ArchWell Health Pine Bluff, a primary care agency for adults 60 and older, will hold a grand opening from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 8 at its location, 2801 S. Olive St., Suite 33. UAPB, ASC slate Color Purple: The Musical

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Theatre Program, in partnership with the ARTx3 Campus, will present The Color Purple: The Musical. The musical will begin at 7 p.m. April 9 at the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater of the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St. In addition to public performances, ARTx3 Campus will host two special school performances on April 10. Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the musical is a UAPB John McLinn Ross Players production. The event will be led by UAPB’s new Instructor of Theatre, Taijee. Air Force band ensemble to perform

The Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble of United States Air Force will perform several free Arkansas concerts. On April 10 at 7:30 p.m., the band will perform at the University of Arkansas at Monticello UAM Fine Arts Center in Monticello as part of UAM Jazz Week. All concerts are free and open to the public. Knights host fish fry Fridays

The Knights of Columbus annual Lenten Fish Fry is being held from 5-7 p.m. every Friday in March and the first two weeks of April at St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street. People can eat in for the all-you-can-eat dinner or get carry-out plates, according to a news release. Dinners for adults are $16 and $10 for children.

Canaan announces women’s conference

Sheryl Banks Ministries, in conjunction with Canaan Christian Center, 7890 Middle Warren Road, will present the 2025 Women’s Conference “Empowerment” April 11-12. At 7 p.m. April 11, host Sheryl Banks, executive pastor of Canaan, will speak. This is an open session and everyone is invited to attend services at the church. The conference continues at 9 a.m. April 12 with a women only service. Pilgrim pantry to give away food

Raven’s Nest Food Pantry at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 2507 Hill St., will give away food April 12 from 8-9:30 a.m. or until all the food has been distributed. Food will be given away on a first come, first-served basis.

Participants must bring a picture identification. The program is a U.S. Department of Agriculture distribution site and an equal opportunity provider, according to a news release.

Area Agency sets bass tourney April 12

Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas will conduct is 27th annual Reeling for Meals Bass Tournament April 12 at Regional Park – Arkansas River. The tournament will be held from “safe light” to 3 p.m. The entry fee is $110 per boat and includes the $500 Big Bass. There’s a $2,500 cash guaranteed to first place. Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1801 S. Indiana St., will host a free Women’s Conference community health fair from 9 a.m. to noon April 12. Behavioral center sets awards dinner

Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare System will present its first Mental Health Advocacy Awards Dinner at the Pine Bluff Country Club at 6 p.m. April 12. The program will honor leading mental health advocates from the five Arkansas counties served by SABHS, according to a news release. Honorees are Noel “Bud” Bryant, Kymara Seals, Judge B. Park Eldridge Jr., Britt Talent, Misti Douthit, Felicia Cobb. The dinner will be prepared by award-winning executive Chef Jamie McAfee and his staff. UAM offers $500 scholarship at event

The University of Arkansas at Monticello will hold a priority registration event for fall 2025 classes April 14-15 between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for new first-time freshman students and new transfer students. This event is for those who plan to attend UAM’s Monticello campus, the UAM College of Technology-Crossett (UAM-CTC) or the UAM College of Technology-McGehee (UAM-CTM). New freshmen and new transfer students will receive a $500 scholarship if they register for fall 2025 classes during this priority event and attend UAM’s campuses in the fall 2025 semester. The White Hall School District Art Department will present: “The Earth without ART is Just EH,” a student artwork showcase, at the White Hall Community Center. Westerman announces art contest

U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) announced the annual Congressional Art Competition for 2025 is open to receive entries from high school students across the Fourth District of Arkansas. Entries are to be submitted in person by April 16. An appointment is recommended to drop off artwork at any of the following District Offices: Pine Bluff – 211 W Third Ave., Ste. 245, Pine Bluff; Hot Springs – 101 Reserve St., Ste. 200, Hot Springs; El Dorado – 101 N. Sculpting event set

The ARTx3 Campus’ workshop, Sculpting with Angi Cooper — originally set for Saturday, — has been moved to April 19. The Little Rock VA Regional Office will hold a virtual claims clinic for Arkansas veterans from 4-6 p.m. April 24. Auditions open for ‘Memphis’

The ARTx3 Campus will host auditions for “Memphis” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26 and 2-4 p.m. April 27 in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas. Passionate singers, dancers, and actors are sought to join this high-energy show, according to the news release. “‘Memphis’ is a Tony Award-winning musical inspired by true events, set in the 1950s underground dance clubs of Memphis, Tenn. It follows a daring white radio DJ and a talented Black club singer, both striving for stardom. Together, they break cultural boundaries and spark a revolution as rock ‘n’ roll takes over,” according to the mews release. Chamber plans Business Expo 2025

The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce invites participants to build their network at Business Expo 2025: America At Work, an event for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community organizations. Business Expo will be held May 1 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The breakfast speaker will be Bobby Gosser, president and chief executive officer of Baldwin & Shell Construction Co. The Business Expo Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. May 1 followed by the program at 8 a.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Superintendents’ scholarships open

The 2025 Anthony, Gathen, Rainey and Tolbert Scholarships are available. The deadline for applying is May 1. These scholarships were created by retired former school district superintendents, Frank Anthony – Pine Bluff, Thomas Gathen – Dollarway, David Rainey — Dumas, and Andrew Tolbert — Warren. The $1,000 scholarships to be given at each school district were developed to assist students from low-income families in going to college, according to a news release. To be eligible, the student must be a graduating senior from the school district’s Class of 2025, have a minimum grade point average of 2.50, and provide a letter detailing what makes them deserve this honor and their career education choice. Applications are available at the school counselors’ offices of each district.

The 2025 Blues by Budweiser concert series will be held at RJ’s Grill & Bar, 128 S. Main St. The doors open at 7 p.m. and concerts begin at 8 p.m. Port City Blues Society members are admitted free. There is a $5 cover charge for non-members, according to a news release. The line-up includes: May 3 — The Arkadelics; June 7 — Chad Marshall Band; July 12 — Tina Cossey Band; Aug. 2 — Kent Burnside Band; Sept. 6 — Big Al & The Heavy Weights; Oct. 4 — Garry Burnside Band; Nov. 1 — Charlotte Taylor & Gypsy Rain.

Boys & Girls Club sets Heroes Banquet

Table sponsorships for the fifth annual Heroes Banquet are now being sold. The event benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 26 at First Methodist Church, 200 W. Sixth Ave. The banquet honors those who have positively impacted the community. A $600 table sponsorship will provide a reserved table for eight guests, recognition in the event program and slideshow and social media acknowledgement on the BGCJC’s platforms. An online payment may be made by requesting an invoice for submission. Checks to be mailed may be made payable to the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County and sent to P.O. Box 6027, Pine Bluff, AR 71611. In-person payment is available at the office at 200 W. Sixth Ave. Confirmation of sponsorship by May 15 is requested.
