Ivy Center to discuss heart health
The Ivy Center for Education will host an interactive workshop titled “ECG: Can Lies Be Measured in Your Heart?” from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences South Central Medical Center, 1601 W. 40th Ave. Students, parents, and guests are encouraged to arrive by 5:45 p.m. and use the rear entrance of the facility.
This session will explore electrocardiograms (ECGs) and how they reveal the hidden electrical activity of the heart, according to a news release.
The workshop will be led by Lauren Morgan, an anatomy and physiology lab instructor at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
Participants will learn about the function and purpose of an ECG, gaining insight into how medical professionals use this technology to assess heart health and detect irregularities.

With her expertise, scholars will discover how the heart’s electrical signals can tell a story beyond what the eye can see, deepening their understanding of the body’s intricate design.
This workshop is especially beneficial for students in grades 7-12 who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine, healthcare, or biomedical sciences.

Remembrance Day set at cemetery
The city of Pine Bluff will host “Remembrance Day,” a special event dedicated to honoring the families the city served and the loved ones laid to rest during 2024.
This inaugural event will take place at noon March 20 at Graceland Cemetery around the cross, according to a news release.
“The ceremony will serve as a time of reflection and gratitude, recognizing those who have passed and expressing appreciation to the families who entrusted Graceland Cemetery as their final resting place. Each individual’s name will be read aloud, followed by a moment of silence in their memory. Families will also receive a memorial keepsake, featuring a photo of their loved one, as a lasting tribute,” according to the release.
The event will include prayers and reflections led by Christian ministers, Catholic priests, and other faith leaders who wish to participate. Following the ceremony, attendees will be invited to gather for a light meal.
“This event is a meaningful way to bring families together in remembrance and reflection,” said Chilton Blunt, cemetery director. “We are grateful to the families who have chosen Graceland Cemetery, and we want to offer this time of tribute and appreciation.”

City seeks nomiations to Hidden Figures
The city of Pine Bluff is seeking nominations for the 2025 Hidden Figures Women’s History Month Celebration. The celebration will be held at 6 p.m. March 29 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
This event aims to highlight the achievements of women in Pine Bluff who have worked behind the scenes to create meaningful change in various sectors, including arts, business, education, finance/banking, health care, manufacturing, nonprofit, professional service, public service, and “up and rising.”

Knights plan fish fry Fridays
The Knights of Columbus annual Lenten Fish Fry is being held from 5-7 p.m. every Friday in March and the first two weeks of April at St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street. People can eat in for the all-you-can-eat dinner or get carry-out plates, according to a news release. Dinners for adults are $16 and $10 for children.
