Grand Marshal set for MLK event
Pine Bluff Mayor Vivian L. Flowers has been named the grand marshal for the 41st Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc. Original KingFest™ MLK Marade/Parade.
The parade will take place on Monday at 2 p.m. The line up for participants is at 1 p.m. The route is as follows: The point of origin is Third Avenue at Walnut Street; proceeding east on Third Avenue to Convention Center Drive, and south on Convention Center Drive to the Pine Bluff Civic Center, north steps.
The event honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through interracial cooperation and community service, according to a news release.

Sigma Gamma Rho plans events
The Alpha Chi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. announces upcoming events and reflects on 2024 progress.
MEMBERSHIP OPEN
Sigma Gamma Rho will have a reception at RJ’S, 128 S. Main St., at 4 p.m. Sunday for women with college degrees who want information about Sigma Gamma Rho. A presentation will be provided and applications will be available to join the sisterhood. Members who have been inactive will also have an opportunity to renew their membership.

SORORITY MEETING

SIGMA GAMMA RHO SCHOLARSHIPS
Sigma Gamma Rho will offer a college scholarship to one graduating high school student at Friendship Aspire Academy, Pine Bluff High School, and Watson Chapel High School.
Applications are available at the school’s counselor’s office. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 26. Recipients will be announced April 12.

SORORITY YEAR END REFLECTIONS
The Alpha Chi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. culminated 2024 with reflections on community service achievements at the monthly meeting Dec. 14.
“The sorority’s motto ‘Greater Service, Greater Progress’ is etched in each member as they graciously completed community service activities in Pine Bluff, Fordyce, Little Rock and Rison, Ark.,” according to a news release.
The annual initiatives were: Project Cradle Care, which provided essential baby items for new mothers at Hope Place; Project Soles for Little Soles, which provided new shoes for students at Forrest Park/Greenville Preschool; Operation Big Bookbag, which delivered school supplies in Pine Bluff and to Rison High School; Food baskets, which were prepared and delivered to Neighbor to Neighbor; and Women Wellness, which focused on mental health.
Members also assisted with the Youth Symposium for teenagers in Little Rock where information and workshops were provided on self-care, healthy eating, and self-love. The year ended as the sorority rang bells for Salvation Army’s Bell during Christmas.
