Food safety

The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

CHARTWELLS @ DOLLARWAY HIGH, 2602 W. Fluker Ave. Date of inspection April 11. RETAIL FOOD ESTABLISHMENT shall have procedures for EMPLOYEES to follow when responding to throwing up or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of such matter onto surfaces in the RETAIL FOOD ESTABLISHMENT. The procedures shall address the specific actions EMPLOYEES must take to minimize the spread of contamination and the exposure of EMPLOYEES, consumers, FOOD, and surfaces to such matter.

HARDIN ELEMENTARY – CHARTWELLS, 700 Schoolwood Drive, Redfield. Date of inspection April 11. Hand washing sink shall be used for only hand washing. The handwashing sink and aids and devices may not be used for food preparation or utensil washing, or a service sink or in any other manner other than handwashing.

MOODY ELEMENTARY – CHARTWELLS, 700 Moody School Drive, White Hall. Date of inspection April 11. Observed beef that manager said was cooked on last Thursday being stored in the walk in cooler with no date marking. Food prepared and held for more than 24 hours shall be clearly marked to indicate the date or day by which the food shall be consumed on the premises, sold or discarded for a maximum of 7 days. Manager said that the beef was not going to be used to serve and it was placed in a personal cooler during inspection.

EDGEWOOD ELEMENTARY, 4100 W. 32nd Ave. Date of inspection April 10. Observed wiping cloths laying on counter top. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to Retail Food establishment. Wiping cloths were placed in sanitizer solution.

HUDDLE HOUSE, 7735 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection April 10. Observed unclean dishes and food debris in the kitchen hand washing sinks. A handwashing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and do not use for purposes other than handwashing. Observed several containers of chemical products being stored next to single use and food items. POISONOUS OR TOXIC MATERIALS shall be stored so they cannot contaminate FOOD, EQUIPMENT, UTENSILS, LINENS, and SINGLE-SERVICE and SINGLE-USE ARTICLES by separating the POISONOUS OR TOXIC MATERIALS by spacing or partitioning. Chemicals were moved away from single use and food items during inspection. The small dessert cooler is visibly unclean on the inside. Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris. Men’s restroom floor is unclean. Clean the physical facilities as often as necessary to keep them clean.
