Community Band sets Patriotic Concert

The Pine Bluff Community Band will present a patriotic concert at 6 p.m. Thursday at Summit Baptist Church, 901 Ridgway Road. A variety of music will be played from marches to “big band” swing. The public is invited to attend. The concert is free, according to a news release.

Bridge work to close Pickens road

Bridge maintenance to the Arkansas 159 Bridge over the Boeuf River requires temporary highway closure near Pickens, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).

Weather permitting, ARDOT crews will close Arkansas 159 between U.S. 65 and Arkansas 138 from July 11 through July 21.

Message boards and signs will guide drivers through the available detour. Eastbound travelers will use U.S. 65 to Arkansas 138. Westbound travelers will use Arkansas 138 to U.S. 65, according to the news release.

Agency plans lunch menu

The Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas is serving lunches from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Lunches available the rest of the week include:

Monday — Submarine sandwich, lettuce, tomato, onion, macaroni salad, peaches, and milk.

Tuesday — White beans with ham, sliced onion and tomato, spinach, cornbread, hot spiced peaches, and milk.

Wednesday — Country fried steak and gravy, mashed potatoes, 5-way blended vegetables, hot roll, sherbet, and milk.

Thursday — Chicken strips, Montreal potatoes, Capri blend, jade salad, and milk.

Friday — Hamburger on bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, seasoned potato wedges, baked beans, watermelon, and milk.

DRA leaders graduate

Delta Regional Authority (DRA) in partnership with Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government (HKS) offered an education opportunity to alumni of the Delta Leadership Institute (DLI) Executive Academy.

Southeast Arkansas residents were among 39 DLI alumni who graduated with an HKS Executive Education Certificate in Authentic Leadership, according to a news release.

Participants included:

Moses Goldmon, Monticello; vice chancellor for Student Engagement, University of Arkansas at Monticello;

Suzzette Goldmon, Monticello; assistant professor and coordinator, Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff;

Rachel Langley Hayes, Crossett; field representative, U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, Fourth District Congressman.

The program, designed and led by Harvard faculty, focuses on modern leadership principles to advance one’s ability to solve real-world challenges.
