UALR law school welcomes students
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law welcomed its first-year students for the 2021-22 school year. Students include Weston Sizemore of White Hall and Maraye Tudor of Stuttgart, according to a news release.
Session to highlight alcohol-based inks
The Pine Bluff Art League will meet from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center in Room A & B. Member Vickie Coleman will present a painting demonstration using alcohol-based inks. The session is free to attend. Visitors 17 and under should be accompanied by an adult, according to a news release.
Because of the continued rise in coronavirus cases, the league will require all members and visitors to wear masks during the meeting. Social distancing is encouraged.

Art league members participate and judge works by their peers each month. Two pieces will have the opportunity to be displayed at Simmons Bank and Relyance Bank until the following meeting.

Agency takes tree-program applications
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division is accepting applications for the 2021 Shade Trees on Playgrounds program through Oct. 8.
Selected schools receive up to five shade trees, mulch, watering supplies, and planting guidelines. Officials with the division will help plant the trees during a ceremony with students this fall, according to a news release.
Urban forestry staff members began the program 19 years ago to help lower adult skin cancer risk by reducing childhood exposure to direct sunlight on school playgrounds.

$14.5M given for employment services
The Delta Regional Authority, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Appalachian Regional Commission, recently announced a $14,587,500 investment was made to 12 programs designed to provide employment and training services to workers and job seekers.
According to a news release this week, recipients with Arkansas connections include:
• Arkansas Rural Health Partnership (Lake Village): $1,500,000;
• Advocates for Community and Rural Education (Little Rock): $1,055,250;
• Southern Arkansas University Tech (Camden): $1,495,154;
• University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (Batesville): $1,075,943;
• Save the Children Federation Inc. (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee): $1,500,000. Details: dra.gov.
