Weather shuts city offices, courthouse

Due to severe weather, the city of Pine Bluff offices will be closed today and Friday. Employees will continue to work from home, according to a news release.

NAACP sets online Black history event

The Carnell Russ branch of the NAACP of Star City will host its first virtual Black History Program Feb. 25. The keynote speaker will be Tamika Silverman Edwards, a lawyer. Simmons Bank announces golf tourney

Simmons Bank has signed a five-year presenting sponsorship agreement with the Arkansas State Golf Association (ASGA). A new amateur event, the Simmons Bank Cup, will be established. The inaugural, Ryder Cup-style tournament will be held at the TPC Southwind golf course in Memphis from April 11–13, according to a news release.

“Building long-term partnerships that enrich our communities and contribute to the development of youth is fundamental to who we are at Simmons Bank,” said George Makris Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Simmons First National Corp. “We are honored to work with the Arkansas State Golf Association to support its mission and establish this annual event.”

The annual tournament will match amateur champions from the ASGA and the Tennessee Golf Association (TGA) for a chance to win the Simmons Bank Cup, according to the release.

Big Buck Classic postponed over covid

The 31st annual Relyance Bank Arkansas Big Buck Classic scheduled for March 12-14 at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds is postponed until further notice for covid-19 related reasons.

Out of respect and safety to the hunters, patrons, exhibitors, and the state of Arkansas, the event is postponed. The staff will continue to work on a viable option for 2021, according to a news release.

The Big Buck Classic has been held on the 4th weekend of January for the past 30 years.

In December of 2020, the Hall of Fame Event was postponed until March in hopes the covid-19 pandemic would take a positive turn. Details: BIGBUCKCLASSIC.COM.

Saracen Casino Resort will remain closed until 4 p.m. Friday because of the inclement weather, according to company officials.
