Jefferson County Food & Safety Report

The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

34TH AVE ELEMENTARY, 801 E. 34th Ave. Date of follow-up inspection Sept. 18. No violations reported.

WALMART SUPERCENTER

— deli/bakery, 5501 Olive St. Date of inspection Sept. 18. No paper towels observed in deli area. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each handwashing sink in food preparation, toilet and warewashing areas. No test strips observed in kitchen. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions.

WALMART SUPERCENTER, 5501 Olive St. Date of inspection Sept. 18. No test strips available in the produce and meat department. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions.

ALTHEIMER FOOD MART LLC, 13512 N. Highway 79, Altheimer. Date of follow-up inspection Sept. 17. All critical violations corrected during time of follow-up inspection.

ROBERT R. MOOREHEAD SCHOOL, 2601 Fluker St. Date of inspection Sept. 17. Observed food in walk-in cooler stored on floor. Foods must be stored six inches above the floor to be stored in compliance with established regulations.

CSO HEAD START – BLAKE STREET, 310 S. Blake St. Date of inspection Sept. 22. No paper towels provided at hand washing sinks. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each handwashing sink in food preparation, toilet and warewashing areas. No soap provided at hand washing sinks. Provide an adequate supply of hand cleanser (liquid, powder or bar) at each handwashing sink. Hand washing sink is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Plumbing fixtures such as Handwashing sinks, toilets and urinals shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean. Three compartment sink is unclean and needs to be cleaned. No test strips observed in kitchen. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. (Facilities director told inspector that they are receiving all of their food and drinks from an approved off site source. Okay to operate.)

EL PARIAN MEXICAN RESTAURANT, 2504 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 21. Observed raw meat being stored on a box of tomatoes in the walk in cooler. Separate raw animal foods during storage, preparation, holding, and display from ready-to-eat food. Raw meat was moved to the bottom shelf during inspection. Observed food stored in bulk bins not labeled with the common name of the food it contains. Food not in the original packages for use in Establishment must be identified with the common name of the food. Observed single use buckets being reused to store food in. Single use containers should not be reused. Observed uncovered trash cans containing food residue when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use. Observed accumulated debris on ceilings especially near ceiling vents. Ceilings should be cleaned.

AMECA MEXICAN RESTAURANT, 7401 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Sept. 16. Observed containers of food in walk in cooler and prep cooler being stored uncovered. Except during cooling, food shall be stored in packages, covered containers, or wrappers. Containers of food were covered during inspection. Observed a small opening in the bottom of the back door near the walk in cooler. All outer openings of a food establishment should be protected against the entry of insects and rodents. Observed some containers of food being stored on the floor in the walk in cooler. Food shall be protected from contamination by storing in a clean dry location where it is not exposed to splash, dust, or other contamination and at least 6 inches above the floor. Containers of food were moved to a shelf during inspection. Observed used wiping cloths being stored on cutting board on prep table. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to Retail Food establishment.

FRIENDSHIP ASPIRE ACADEMY PINE BLUFF, 3911 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection Sept.

  1. Observation: No hot water in kitchen area. Hot water generation and distribution systems be of sufficient capacity to meet the peak water demands of the establishment.

LA CASA DE MI ABUELITA MAWMAW’S HOUSE, 816 Mail Route Road, Jefferson. Date of inspection Sept. 16. Observation: Facility lacks test strips. Corrective Action: Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions.

RANCH HOUSE BAR-B-QUE, 6224 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Sept. 16. Vent hood in kitchen is visibly unclean and needs to be cleaned.

MOODY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 700 Moody Drive, White Hall. Date of inspection Sept. 15. No paper towels observed at hand washing sink in restroom. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand washing sink in food preparation, toilet, and ware washing areas.

COLEMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 4600 W. 13th Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 14. Observation: Freezer needs to be cleaned. Equipment food contact surfaces shall be clean to sight and touch.

TERI FOODS INC., 902 River Road, Redfield. Date of inspection Sept. 14. Observation: Facility lacks test strips. Corrective Action: Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. Observation: Refrigerator needs to be cleaned. Nonfood surfaces shall be cleaned and sanitized as necessary to keep clean. Observation: Corrective Action: Establishment need a genera l cleaning. Clean the physical facilities as often as necessary to keep them clean.

LYBRAND’S TOO, 6201 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Sept. 23. Ceiling tile above vent hood is missing and needs to be replaced. Some parts of the ceiling are unclean and need to be cleaned. Some light bulbs in kitchen/food prep area are not properly shielded. Lights in the food prep area should be properly shielded or bulbs should be shatterproof.
