Jefferson County Food & Safety Report

The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

FRIENDSHIP ASPIRE ACADEMY SE Campus, 1501 W. 73rd Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 14. No soap observed in restrooms. Provide an adequate supply of hand cleanser (liquid, powder, or bar) at each hand washing sink. No paper towels observed in women’s restroom. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each handwashing sink in food preparation, toilet and warewashing areas. No test strips observed in kitchen. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. Observed an accumulation of trash on the ground by outside receptacle. Outside receptacles should be kept so that accumulation of debris and insect and rodent attraction and harborage are minimized.

HUDDLE HOUSE, 7735 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection into complaint Sept. 14. No violations reported.

KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN, 3002 Pines Mall Drive, P. O. BOX 789705. Date of follow-up inspection Sept. 11. No paper towels provided in men’s restroom. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand washing sink in food preparation, toilet and ware washing areas. Coleslaw (52 degrees F) and coleslaw (62 degrees F) in prep area, green beans (53 degrees F) and macaroni and cheese (55 degrees F) in walk in cooler nearest three compartment sink, and raw chicken (50 degrees F) in walk in cooler holding raw chicken are out of safe temperature range. Time/ Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperature of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Observed an opening in door seal in the back door. All outer openings of a food establishment should be protected against the entry of insects and rodents. Drink station in lobby is leaking and has standing liquid under fountain. Drink station should be repaired so that it does not leak and liquid should be cleaned. Some floor tiles are missing. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair. Floors in establishment, especially under equipment, are unclean and need to be cleaned. Ceiling vent in the back is unclean and needs to be cleaned.

All outer openings of a food establishment should be protected against the entry of insects and rodents. Drink station in lobby is leaking and has standing liquid under fountain. Drink station should be repaired so that it does not leak and liquid should be cleaned. Ceiling vent in the back is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Some floor tiles are missing. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair.

IRISH MAID DONUT, 2320 S. Blake St. Date of inspection Sept. 11. Observation: Observed some equipment unclean. Non-food surfaces of equipment shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

JACK ROBEY JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, 4101 Olive St. Date of inspection Sept. 11. Observed damaged ceiling tile above automatic dishwasher. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair.

PINE BLUFF HIGH BASKETBALL CONCESSION, 1000 Beech St. Date of inspection Sept. 11. No test strips observed in establishment. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. Cabinets, counter tops, and drawers in establishment are unclean and need to be cleaned. Concession was not in operation during time of inspection.

PINE BLUFF HIGH FOOTBALL CONCESSION, 521 W. 10th Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 11. No paper towels observed at hand washing sinks. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand washing sink in food preparation, toilet and ware washing areas. No soap observed at hand washing sinks. Provide an adequate supply of hand cleanser (liquid, powder, or bar) at each hand washing sink. Observed dead insects in home and visitor side concession stand. Dead pests shall be removed from control devices and the premises at a frequency that prevents their accumulation, decomposition, or the attraction of pests. Counter tops are unclean and need to be cleaned. No water available in visitor side concession. Water should be available throughout establishment before next use. Floors are unclean and need to be cleaned. Concessions were not open during time of inspection. Water is turned off after the season until the next season.

PINE BLUFF HIGH TRACK CONCESSION, 711 W. 11th Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 11. No paper towels observed in concession. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each hand washing sink in food preparation, toilet and ware washing areas. No soap observed in concession. Provide an adequate supply of hand cleanser (liquid, powder, or bar) at each hand washing sink. No test strips observed in establishment. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. Counter tops in concession are unclean and need to be cleaned. No water available in concession.Water should be available in concession before next use. Part of the ceiling in the concession is damaged. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair. Floors, walls, and ceilings in concession are unclean and need to be cleaned. Lights in establishment do not have a protective shield over them. All lights should be properly shielded. No lighting observed in concession. Concession should have lighting. Concession not in operation during time of inspection.

PINE BLUFF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, 10th Avenue and Laurel Street. Date of inspection Sept. 11. Fruit punch juice (64 degrees F) in reach in refrigerator is out of safe temperature range. Box containing fruit punch juice had “Keep Refrigerated” written on the outside. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperature of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Boxes of fruit punch juice were discarded during inspection. Ceiling vents in the walk in cooler are unclean and need to be cleaned.

ABC LEARNING ACADEMY #2, 6210 Dollarway Road, Suite 3, White Hall. Date of inspection Sept. 10. Observation: Need to clean nonfood contact surfaces. Nonfood surfaces shall be cleaned and sanitized as often necessary to keep clean.

LARRY’S PIZZA, 7401 DOLLAR-WAY ROAD, White Hall. Date of inspection Sept. 10. Observed packages of food in walk in cooler being stored directly on the floor. Packages of food were placed on shelves during inspection. Walls above three compartment sink are unclean and need to be cleaned. Floors under equipment in kitchen and in dry storage are unclean and need to be cleaned.

MA HARDIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, P.O. Box 159, Redfield Date of inspection Sept. 10. Observed boxes of food stored on the floor in storage area. Food must be stored six inches above the floor to be in compliance with established regulations Observation: Facility lacks test strips Corrective Action: Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions.

JO ANN’S, 4002 Old Warren Road. Date of inspection Sept. 15 Observed used wiping cloths on prep counter. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to Retail Food establishment. Observation: Observed trash cans containing food residue being stored uncovered when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be stored covered when not in continuous use.

BROADMOOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, Wisconsin Street. Date of inspection Sept. 15. Observed a box of single service items in storage area stored on the floor. Items must be stored six inches above the floor to prevent contamination. Box was removed from floor during time of inspection.
