Jefferson County Food Safety reports for the week of 7-22-18


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

• Kentucky Fried Chicken, 3002 Pines Mall Drive. Date of inspection into complaint July 17. No violations observed pertaining to complaint during inspection.

• Arkansas Department of Correction max unit, 2501 State Farm Road, Tucker. Date of inspection July 11. Some light fixtures in bakery are missing protective shields. Replace missing shields.

• Arkansas Department of Correction, Tucker, 2400 State Farm Road, Tucker. Date of inspection July 11. Swing grill, two baking ovens and two stand mixers not working. This equipment should be repaired or removed from food service area.

• Dollar General, 901 S. Blake St. Date of inspection July 10. Current health permit not posted. A person or persons must have a valid permit to operate the retail food establishment in compliance with the law. Please contact the billing office at 501-661-2171 to ensure that you are in compliance with the law.

• Family Dollar Store, 1113 S. Blake St. Date of inspection July 10. Service sink pipe is leaking water and needs to be repaired. Service sink is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Ceiling and walls in the dry storage area are unclean and need to be cleaned.

• Precious Memories Too, 6022 Sheridan Road. Date of inspection July 10. Observed thermometers not reading properly. Need thermometers in all cooler and hot holding unit to ensure proper holding temperatures.

• Nueva Generacion, 6101 McGaughy Road. Date of opening inspection July 9. Observed pipe leaking under three compartment sink — needs to be repaired. OK to operate; permit given.

• Quality Inn and Suites, 2809 Pines Mall Drive. Date of inspection July 9. Thermometer not observed in coolers holding food that must stay cold. Thermometer needed in all coolers holding food that must stay cold. Hand-washing sink is clogged. Hand-washing sink needs to be repaired. Three compartment sink is unclean and needs to be cleaned. No test strips noted in establishment. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. Restroom door near kitchen is not self closing. Restroom door needs a self closure on it. Ceiling in kitchen area is not smooth and easily cleanable. Ceiling should be made of material that is easily cleanable.

• Super 1 Foods, 2800 Hazel St. Date of follow-up inspection July 9. Back door in produce area is not sealed properly to prevent pests from entering — seal needs repaired.

• Big Red Travel Plaza, 8110 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of follow-up inspection July 6. Some cold holding temperatures in walk in cooler are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below). Observed seasoning out of the original package in unlabeled bulk bins. Food not in the original, protective package should be labeled with the common name of the food it contains. Shelves throughout establishment are unclean and need to be cleaned. Trash cans containing food residue were uncovered during inspection. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use. Some parts of ceiling and ceiling vents throughout establishment are unclean and need to be cleaned. Vent hood is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Protective shielding missing over light fixture in kitchen area. Protective shields needed over all lights in kitchen.

• China Garden Buffet, 7203 Sheridan Road, Suite N and O, White Hall. Date of follow-up inspection July 5. Observed some food in containers being stored directly on the floor in the walk in cooler. Food in containers should be stored at least 6 inches off of the floor. Used wiping cloths observed sitting on counter tops. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitizer solution between use. Leak observed in pipe in hand-washing sink. Pipe should be repaired so that it does not leak. Floors, especially under equipment and in dry storage, are unclean and need to be cleaned. Observed floor tile in kitchen by three compartment sink missing-needs to be replaced.

• Sonic Drive in – White Hall, 8601 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of follow-up inspection July 5. Some cold holding temperatures in ice cream refrigerator are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below). Observed some shelving throughout establishment, bottom of ice cream refrigerator, and outside of trash can in dry storage area are unclean and need to be cleaned. Observed trash cans containing food residue without lids during inspection. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use. Some parts of floor, especially under shelving and cooking equipment, is unclean and needs to be cleaned.
