Jefferson County Food Safety reports for the week of 1-22-17


The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:

• Ridgway Christian School, 3201 Ridgway Road. Date of inspection Jan. 11. A hand-washing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and do not use for purposes other than hand washing (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Observation: All trash cans need lids. Only need lids if they contain food residue and are not in continuous use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Community Empowerment Council, 2501 S. Cherry St. Date of inspection Jan. 12. Food not in the original packages for use in Establishment must be identified with the common name of the food (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Drying of wiping cloths should be in accordance with regulations; wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitize solution after each use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Dollar General, 1414 E. Harding Ave. (100 Mission Ridge.) Date of inspection Jan. 11. No current health permit posted (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Dollar General Store, 9209 Sulphur Springs Road; ATTN: Tax dept. Date of inspection Jan. 13. Observation: Needs to clean non-food contact surface (counter top.)

• Shell Quick Mart, 1502 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 13. Single service cups at self service drink station need to be stored in the original protective package to prevent contamination (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Wiping cloths near drink machine should not be used under single service cups (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Door on ice machine needs to be repaired (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Three compartment sink needs to be repaired for manually washing, rinsing, and sanitizing dishes (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Big Banjo pizza parlor, 4208 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 12. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid and a straw (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) A hand-washing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and do not use for purposes other than hand-washing (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection; repeat violation.) Need more lighting in establishment (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)

• Marie’s Catfish, 2109 Whippoorwill Lane, White Hall. Date of construction inspection Jan. 17. No violations reported.

• Dollar General, 3100 Olive St. Date of inspection Jan. 17. Contents of freezer that went out have been discarded.
