A reported armed disturbance at a house across from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park on North Haverty Street resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly hit a teenager in the face and pointed a gun at him.
According to a probable cause affidavit from Detective Temmiothy Johnson that was presented in district court Wednesday, Kenan J. Reeves, aka “Big 30,” shook hands with the alleged victim, then hit him in the face and pointed a gun at him.
The alleged victim and a witness said that after Reeves allegedly pointed the gun, the alleged victim ran into the house and Reeves left the area walking toward Townsend Park.
When Reeves was located, police reported finding a handgun his pocket and when Reeves was interviewed, he allegedly said the alleged victim swung at him and he ducked and hit the alleged victim in the face. He also allegedly said he pulled out the handgun and pointed it at the ground.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Reeves after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault. Reeves was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled.
Reeves said he would hire his own attorney.
