The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River. Recent heavy rains caused flows to rise. During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft.
Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam near Fort Smith were about 104,000 c.f.s. on Tuesday. Flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam near Russellville were about 82,000 c.f.s. Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock were at 69,000 c.f.s. and were expected to reach 95,000 c.f.s. Wednesday. Flows at Mills Dam at Arkansas Post were about 63,000 c.f.s. and were anticipated to rise to 90,000 c.f.s. by Thursday, April 16.
More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer. Details: www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil
