2-month-old baby dies, mother arrested

A 2-month-old baby died on Saturday, and the mother has been arrested, according to the Pine Bluff Police Department.

Pine Bluff Officers went to the Sun Bridge Inn, at 4600 Dollarway Road, around 2:30 p.m. because of an unresponsive infant, according to a press release. When they arrived, they found the baby, which had severe bruising and was malnourished. The infant was immediately taken by ambulance to Jefferson Regional Medical Center but died shortly after arrival.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division interviewed the child’s mother, 24-year-old, Lacrystal Matthews, and based on statements and physical evidence gathered during the investigation, she was arrested and booked into the W.C. Dub Brassell Adult Detention Center in connection with a charge of first degree murder, police said.
