2 Jefferson County programs receive grants for summer meals

The No Kid Hungry Free Summer Meals campaign has awarded a total of $6,000 to two Jefferson County summer meals sponsors — Agape Love Ministry and TOPPS Inc., both in Pine Bluff.

The two Pine Bluff agencies received $3,000 each from the campaign which connects local groups with the U.S. Department of Agriculture reimbursement funds available through the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

Additional grants were also offered by Share Our Strength, a national non-profit group which works to eliminate childhood hunger, and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.

Authorized USDA Summer Food Service Program sponsors who applied were awarded grants to help them build the capacity of their programs. Statewide, more than $163,700 in grants were distributed to sponsors of summer meals sites.

The Summer Meals Program makes free meals and snacks available to youth under 18 years old during the summer months. Details: Call 1-888-4KID4AR or visit www.NoKidHungry.org/Arkansas.
