A traffic stop by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy Wednesday night resulted in the arrest of two people on drug related charges after both were found to have a substance that field tested positive for crystal methamphetamine in their possession.
During a court hearing Thursday, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said Justin George, 24, had a bag containing the drug in his pants, and Barbara Jones, 37, had several bags in her purse.
Tri-County Drug Task Force Investigator John Bean reported that he was called to the area of U.S. 65 and Market Street at about 9 p.m., after the deputy found the drugs.
Kizer said George was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, and during a search following the arrest, deputies also found four syringes and a glass smoking pipe, as well as the bag containing the crystal methamphetamine.
Bean reported that Jones also had drug paraphernalia in her purse.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 bond for both George and Jones after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge them with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kearney appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent the two, who Kizer said had no prior felony convictions or pending charges.
