$1.5 million lawsuit settlement involves SEA workers

LITTLE ROCK — An Arkansas company has agreed to pay migrant farm workers $1.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit which involved workers in Bradley County.

Candy Brand LLC will pay back wages owed to about 1,500 foreign guest workers, the Southern Poverty Law Center announced Thursday.

The law center filed the suit on the workers’ behalf in U.S. District Court at El Dorado. The suit alleged that the company failed to pay the workers federally mandated minimum wages and overtime wages for tomato picking they did in Bradley County from 2003-2007.

The settlement agreement is one of the largest ever reached in a lawsuit against a single employer of foreign guest workers, the law center said.
