WASHINGTON — The state will get a $1.2 million federal grant to help pay for rebuilding a bridge in Chicot County that collapsed during this year’s flooding on the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which issued the grant, said the state’s current plans for the $1.7 million project are to return the bridge to its pre-disaster footprint and function.
“This year’s historic flooding along the Mississippi River took a toll on eastern Arkansas, including completely wiping out the Macon Bayou Bridge. This federal investment will help the state of Arkansas rebuild the bridge, create jobs and help ensure Southeast Arkansas has the infrastructure it needs to recover and grow,” said U.S. Rep. Mike Ross, D-Prescott.
Ross announced the grant, along with U.S. Sens. John Boozman, R-Ark., and Mark Pryor, D-Ark.
